Photos-For-You.com update - (39 of 1373 or so..) (Blog Page )

I finally got round to changing my user 'nicename' in Wordpress on photos-for-you.com from 'Jordan' to 'free-photo-guy' which involved using phpmyadmin to alter one field in the database.

I then set up a 301 redirect to redirect

/author/Jordan

to

/author/free-photo-guy

So people will still be able to find the blog using the old links.

While I was at it, I took the opportunity to do a 301 redirect on /photo-blog so I don't have to rely on the javascript redirect working on that page in Wordpress (and I think it may be a little better for SEO purposes to do it this way).

Now all I have to do is work out how on earth to remove '/author' from the URL completely... (Though to me honest I can live with it the way it is now).

While on the subject of blogging, I have also made the effort to write some text to go with my latest photo blog posts, which definitely has to be beneficial from an SEO and a user point of view. The only down side to this activity is that it is *time consuming* in the extreme. It definitely adds at least 10 minutes to each new photo upload, which is not to be sniffed at when you are uploading hundreds of photos a month! (Yes, that's right - I am very much going for quantity over quality :-).
I'm not 100% sure it is worth all the extra time, but when I get the time, I'll do it, and at some point in the future I'll get some sort of an idea how much this helps to bring in extra traffic and rankings...

By the way - here is the link to the new Photo Blog . Please leave any comments or abuse you have for me there. Thanks!

Photos For You - AdSense Earnings - October 2011

Things are really starting to look up now for photos-for-you.com.

Total AdSense Earnings for October 2011 are £5.93!

Hooray - I'm now able to cover the costs of my domain name reservation and hosting!

Here's a screen shot:-

By the way, earnings for this blog for the same period were £0.94 (Hooray again - I almost forgot to factor these massive earnings in to my profit and loss spreadsheet...)

Photos-For-You.com update - (38 of 1373 or so..) (Disqus Comments )

Photos-for-you.com must be getting fairly visible on the internet as I am now being tortured by spam comments.

I think it is pretty good, especially the way it allows you to login with your twitter account. I had tried installing this before on one of my other Wordpress web sites - but for some reason it refused to import all the existing comments, so I gave up on that one..

But since I don't have any genuine comments yet on photos-for-you.com yet, I decided to install the Disqus plugin for Wordpress (If it's good enough for Simply Zesty Social Media, it's good enough for me).

I think it looks better than the standard Wordpress comments and I'll keep you all updated in how well this copes with spam comments (assuming that anyone reads this blog that is... :-)

PS - It seems that in Wordpress, each individual post has an 'allow trackback/pingback' field, and the Wordpress settings, 'Discussion', 'Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)' option does not affect posts retrospectively.

I therefore had to follow the instructions on this page :-

http://wordpress.org/support/topic/globally-disable-pingback-and-trackback

To stop getting notified of loads of spammy trackbacks.

I'm not sure why any of my posts had this option enabled (as far as I know it was never enabled in 'settings', 'discussion'), but after I ran the SQL from the above page, apparently there were 4759 rows affected!
