Photos-For-You.com update (37 of 1373 or so..)

I haven't had much time to work on my photo web site of late.
I did notice that the Yet Another Photo Blog page in Wordpress Amin had stopped working for me a few posts back, but I didn't have time to look into it.
I logged back in today and got a message saying that there was a new update available for it - so I installed it and Hey Presto! It's working again!
Thanks Johannes for a great plugin (and for keeping it updated for all of us).

Photos-For-You.com update (36 of 1373 or so..)

Seeing as I have been getting an approximate RPM of £0.000000001 from my photo web site so far, I've decided to make the pages a wee bit smaller so I have a better advert to content ratio (or worse ratio depending on how you look at it).

I have decreased the number of posts per page from 12 to 10, and I would have decreased the number of random images in the side bar as well - but for the fact that when I click on 'YAPB' options in Wordpress Admin I now get a completely blank page! :-( I've no idea why - I haven't change anything since the last time I used it as far as I can remember - ah the joys of open source 'use at your own risk' software - but you can't exactly complain when it's free now, can you?

Fuji HS20EXR Video Quality.

If you are in low light conditions -the auto focus on the video mode on the HS20 EXR has a mind of its own. It's really, really bad, and the focus buttons on the camera only seem to apply to still shots.

I have more than a few family video clips ruined by the continuous video auto focus now.

You have to go into the menu, and find 'Movie AF Mode' and set it to 'Center' rather than continuous..

We'll see how it goes with the 'Center' video focus, but I have a feeling I'd be better off using my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S) for indoor video clips.

Here is a sample clip with center focus selected for video (seems to work OK so far):-

Photos-For-You.com update (35 of 1373 or so.)

While still pondering (not too hard) on how best to have a 'blog' page (I know ridiculous, since photos-for-you.com uses Wordpress, I realised that the 'author archives' page could act a blog, as it seems to sort posts by newest first.

OK, sorted. Or is it...

How on earth do you create a new page in Wordpress and tell it that you want it to show the author archives without asking the user to click on another link?

Maybe there is an easy way but I don't know what it is. In the mean time I have resorted to putting the following html on my 'Photo Blog' page :-

Click Here For The Latest Photos (Blog).
I think this is very far from ideal, but it'll do for now. Also - it seems that you can't get rid of the original user 'nicename' from the author URL '/Jordan/' without manually altering it on the database... Another thing to do when I get time..

Anyway - here is my new Photo Blog page.

Image Search Traffic

I mentioned in a previous post that Google Analytics currently has a strange way of showing Google Image Search traffic . But now that I have analytics and webmaster tools linked together, it seems this doesn't matter so much, as when I look under Traffic Sources, Search Engine Optimization, Queries - it allows me to see queries by 'Google Property' as well as telling me Impressions, Clicks, and Average Position - which is nice to know. It'll should also allow me to add some weight too the theory that a good CTR on Images will significantly improve their position.

Here's a wee screenshot :-
