2010 Earnings Summary (AdSense & Photos)

This relates to Irish Photos / Wallpaper - irishviews.com and this blog.

Lets start with this blog:

Adsense earnings - £28 GBP (though I didn't have AdSense on this blog for the whole year).
Project Wonderful - £5 GBP (approx)
Infolinks - $5.01 (after 52,719 page views)

This goes to show that you cannot just set up a free Blog and put a few hours a week into it and expect to make a full time living from it!

Irishviews.com:
Adsense earnings - £3195 GBP
Photo Sales - £881 GBP (It would have been less than half this figure if I had not got lucky and sold a photo for use by the Royal Mint in the UK for quite a lot of money..)

So

Total Earnings for 2010 are about £4100 GBP or approx $6400

I did have some expenses for the year - but since this blog is about making money online - we'll just ignore that inconvenient little fact for now:-)

You can see the spike around the middle of March which is almost entirely due to Saint Patrick's Day (March 17th) i.e. more people are searching for Irish related stuff at that time of the year.

If anyone wants to see a bit more information on the sort of traffic that my sites got during the year, have a look at

http://www.quantcast.com/p-69vD_sSm4z0-g which does include a couple of my sites that are not mentioned above / may or may not have AdSense on them - but nevertheless will give you a pretty good idea of the sort of traffic needed to generate this income.

NB - if anyone is reading this who has not read my blog before, I must point out the following :-

• It is not easy to make money online.
• Most of my money made online is from photos (via AdSense adverts on irishviews.com).
• A huge amount of time and effort went into making the money I did in 2010 online (if I added up all the hours I spent then it would work out at a fairly small wage per hour).
• I am not a talented photographer, so there is hope for others... :-)

Adsense Earnings For December 2010 - £294 (GBP)

Adsense Earnings For December 2010 - £294 GBP (approx $460 US Dollars)
Even though traffic tailed off even more during December - I managed to increase earnings by implementing a javascript framebuster on irishviews.com :-

With the new Google image search making image search traffic worth *even* less than before I decided that enough was enough and implemented the following bit of javascript code :-

if(top != self) top.location.replace(location);

Which removes the Google image search frame, and brings users directly onto your own web site.

Early indications are that, taking the decrease in traffic into account, that earnings are up around 80%!

I am not 100% sure that this code is a good idea in the long term - but it looks like it will definitely help earnings in the short term, and since it doesn't break the user's back button, hopefully it will not annoy anyone too much :-)
