Photos-For-You.com update - (39 of 1373 or so..) (Blog Page )
I finally got round to changing my user 'nicename' in Wordpress on photos-for-you.com from 'Jordan' to 'free-photo-guy' which involved using phpmyadmin to alter one field in the database.
I then set up a 301 redirect to redirect
/author/Jordan
to
/author/free-photo-guy
So people will still be able to find the blog using the old links.
While I was at it, I took the opportunity to do a 301 redirect on /photo-blog so I don't have to rely on the javascript redirect working on that page in Wordpress (and I think it may be a little better for SEO purposes to do it this way).
Now all I have to do is work out how on earth to remove '/author' from the URL completely... (Though to me honest I can live with it the way it is now).
While on the subject of blogging, I have also made the effort to write some text to go with my latest photo blog posts, which definitely has to be beneficial from an SEO and a user point of view. The only down side to this activity is that it is *time consuming* in the extreme. It definitely adds at least 10 minutes to each new photo upload, which is not to be sniffed at when you are uploading hundreds of photos a month! (Yes, that's right - I am very much going for quantity over quality :-).
I'm not 100% sure it is worth all the extra time, but when I get the time, I'll do it, and at some point in the future I'll get some sort of an idea how much this helps to bring in extra traffic and rankings...
By the way - here is the link to the new Photo Blog . Please leave any comments or abuse you have for me there. Thanks!
