Quantcast

I like QuantCast.

If you get more than a few visitors to your web sites - it is a good way of showing potential advertisers how many eyes they could be in front of...

It also gives you a rough idea of your traffic at a glance, if you can't be bothered to look at your Google Analytics.

But for some reason it was insisting that my Photos Web Site was getting a lot less visitors than it actually was.

Here is a copy of the email from their very helpful support (most recent at the top):-

No, not if they don’t actually arrive at your site. We count the pageview and the traffic toward your “network”, however, since the user is at “images.google.com” in their browser bar, they are only visiting a site that is syndicating your content.

So, in effect, we count it both ways.

Yes - that will be images.google.com, images.google.co.uk etc..

I get a lot of image search traffic.

So while the syndicator may be images.google.com, it should still count as a 'irishviews.com' page view as one of the pages of my web site is actually being viewed?

(This is how Google analytics would show it).

Thanks.

Hi Jordan --

We are seeing Irishviews as your largest site as well -- however, we are seeing a very large amount of traffic showing up in syndicated frames on Google.

The number for the 'JMCWD Network' are about right,

But the way they are broken down is completely wrong.

I know that irishviews.com accounts for the vast majority of my traffic - but Quantcast says it is only a minority of traffic...

So, in summary - if you get a lot of people viewing your pages from Google Image Search - then Quantcast counts this traffic as 'Syndicated' traffic rather than direct traffic...

Lucy Starkiller Review

I got an email recently from Jonathan Timar, asking me to review his 'Lucy Starkiller' Photoshop / PSP script.

Here is an excerpt from his email:-

Hi Jordan,

My Name is Jonathan, I run the blog known as "The Limelight", at http://inthelimelight.net. You may remember it, as you have visited a few times and even left a comment or two.

I am also the creator of the Lucy Starkiller Photoshop Action (and Paint Shop Pro script), which is essentially a no plugin required response to the LucisArts/Dave Hill "look" craze. It became quite popular, especially early on when I was actively promoting it, and most users have been very pleased with it.

With that in mind, I was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing it on your blog? .....

Thanks Jordan,
Jonathan Timar

I would just like to start out by saying that I am long time user of Paint Shop Pro (Currently Paint Shop Pro Photo X2), and at the very least, I think it is great that someone is catering for the Paint Shop Pro users amongst us...

Anyway, without further ado, here is the review...

Installation is simple. Just copy the .pspscript files into your 'trusted-scripts' folder on your PC.

Then it is just a matter of running your chosen Lucy Starkiller script as you would any other Paint Shop Pro script.

Here are some sample images:-
Fordson Tractor Processed With Lucy Starkiller Script (Sharp)

I think the results look really excellent, and require absolutely no effort at all on your part (have you ever wasted hours trying to make a photo look a little bit better??).

The best part is that the script (for Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro) is only $15.95, and Jonathan is currently offering a couple of special discounts :-

The next 15 people who purchase LSK and use the discount code 'ilovelucy', a 25% discount will be applied. I cannot guarantee how long those will last, but as of right now there are 15 25% off coupons available.

Also - exclusive to readers of this blog - special offer code "mmfplskoctober", gives a 15% discount, and will be valid until the end of October 2009.

If you would like to order 'Lucy Starkiller', please do so at

http://inthelimelight.net/2008/08/08/introducing-the-lucy-starkiller-photoshop-actionpaint-shop-pro-script/

And please let me know how you get on with it!

Adsense Earnings - September 2009 = $368!

Traffic is really on the up again, with the combined effect of the end of summer, and more of my images being picked up in Google Image search (I think).

Here is a very rough look at how the traffic is picking up:-

All other earnings apart from Adsense are not enough to even mention here, and I didn't sell any photos this month despite a few genuine sounding enquiries.....
